Update on Lucky 7 Bikes in sunnyside we need your HELP!!!!

Hey all,
First of all, if you haven't taken a moment to celebrate the opening and huge success that Lucky Seven is ... then do so right now! Thank you for your contribution! This really is making a difference! The kids who are coming in, many of them really need something like this, I can guarantee that this venture is helping to change lives for the better, and our town for the better... (although you may have to be more on your toes now if you are driving!)

Next matter of business. If we don't get more volunteers, tools and just plain help, I don't think we will be able to keep going. Not that we haven't had a lot of help, most of you have been in to help out have seen that the response has been greater than we ever thought! Tonight alone we had 25 kiddos sign up, and we have a total of 65 kids signed up right now, tonight we had at least 50+ people stop by, and over 20 kids working on bikes... We also had a lot of parents in to help and even the mayor stopped by and worked with the kids! (by the way.. I think he is going to pull some strings and get us a portopottie!) BUt we are still up to our eye balls in kids! So lets pool our resources find more resources, spread the word! We need cash donations, we need at least two more sets of tools, we are going to need more bikes soon, we need real bike stands and we need volunteers and volunteer bike mechanics! PHEW!

Ok, well, this truly is exciting, and I can not say thank you enough! We just need to keep up the momentum a while longer until this becomes more sustainable!

-Julie Kerr

Bike enthusiasts needed to inspire and teach youngsters in sunnyside

Hello!
We have had two VERY successful evenings with Lucky 7 Bikes of Sunnyside first week of being open. Lucky 7 Bikes is an all volunteer project aimed at youth (9-180 in the Sunnyside area. We let them pick a bike (all donated) and then teach them how to tear it apart to the bearings and clean it up and the reassemble it. They then must help another youth through the same prosses. Our few men with knowledge of bikes have been doing a fantastic job of helping the boys-but we have 26 signed up and have had to tell 1/2 to return this week as we just did not have the Man power to help them all. So this is an APB crying for help! We desperately need men or women who have the skill to show the boys how to work on their bikes. The boys do the work but they need guidance. so Please-tell anyone you know to come as often as possible as soon as possible! We are open 5-8 every Tues and Thurs. You can find us on 7th Street-at the Grace Brethren Auxillary building-across 7th Street from the GBC and across Grant street from the Library.

Ann Bardell -working with our community to improve the future of the next generation!
(509) 830-0689

A "mature" riding partner?

Anyone out there interested in riding with someone in exploring some of the rails-to-trails paths (or other interesting (but easy) rides in the state?

Some basic information about myself that you might want to know:

Im a 60 year-old male - dont go too fast, but I go pretty far. I am not a competitive rider. The quality of the ride matters to me - not the riding time or distance.

Dont enjoy group riding - more than two or so is a crowd. Yes, I did the canyon ride a couple of months ago - and really enjoyed seeing the Mountain Sheep :-O

Ride either mountain or road bike - as the trip/whim dictates.

Do not enjoy riding in traffic; would rather take my chances with a tree than a enraged Honda Civic with a coffee can muffler.

Love nature; have been known to stop a while and watch wildlife or take in the scenery.

Will dismount and walk/hike occasionally - enjoy exploring trails and hidden byways - as long as they are safe. Think Trail of the Hiawatha and/or Trail of the Coeur dAlenes.

I believe a rider should not only take care of themselves, but should also look out for their partner. I always carry a first-aid kit and some basic emergency equipment. Hope my riding partner would do the same.

Enjoy and appreciate fine equipment, but am not vain about it.

Spandex-encased gonads and flames on a helmet dont impress me - think L.L. Bean.

Would rather ride on a weekday, whenever possible - avoiding the weekend crowds. However, if the ride is worth it, Ill ride any day of the week.

Sorry about this list, but I rode with someone a couple of years ago and it was not a good match - it was a short ride. Just trying to save some grief for everyone involved

Anyone around my age bracket still interested? If so, might be prudent to meet at a Starbucks (or where ever) somewhere to see if we might be compatible - and go from there.

William

Email: kandw@q.com

Tour of California

Anyone been following the Tour of California? It's been a rough road for Lance Armstrong in his return to American bike racing. Levi Leipheimer is currently in first overall. Going to be any interesting next couple days.

The site below has been good for daily updates, stories & video from this breathtakingly beautiful road cycling competition. You can also track your favorite athletes which is cool.

Anyway, curious to talk about the race with people.

Link: Tour of California
